The County Fair
I LOVE going to the fair. I am totally a farm girl at heart. I love the ducks, horses, chickens, and most of all the Cows. I have always wanted to milk a cow. Every year we go to the Fair and I say "this is my year". I have had luck with milking goats. But this year I got a real treat, that's right. A big Heifer- totally engorged. It was so awesome. I totally milked her. I smiled for the rest of the day.
I am really enjoying Minnesota. We have a local organic garden that I am in love with and I get all my produce there. I also am able to buy farm fresh milk from a near by farm. I let the cream settle to the top of the jar and make my own butter. It is sooo good. Mmm mmm. With my fresh chicken eggs I am really in heaven.
Who Knew little kid rides were this much fun? It was so fun to see Elias get excited about the rides.
We camped out Friday night after going to the Fair- then Saturday we went to a Strawberry farm and picked and ate. We came home with almost 50lbs of Strawberries. Did I say 50? Yes. 50 Lbs. I have already made LOTs of Jam. And today at Chruch somebody brought Rhubarb to give away. So, more Strawberry, Rhubarb Pie.
One woman’s journey. Living her moments vulnerably through happiness, pain, joy, and sorrow. Experiencing life, death and living. . . . . . Curiously and playfully discovering the NOW.

Heidi, you're probably one of the last people on the earth that gets so much joy out of milking a cow. Those are great pictures. Maybe Eric will get you a milk cow for your next birthday. =)
very nice site thanks for sharing

Heidi- you are soo cute, I don't think that I have ever seen anyone soo excited to milk a cow...actually I have never seen anyone milk a cow before. I love your blog.
I can't believe you milked a cow! I would love to tell you how jealous I am... but I'm not. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I wish you lived closer so you could teach me how to make butter. Do you read Hobby Farms? It is a great magazine for the hobby farmer. I think you would like it. I subscribe to it and love it!
Sounds like so much fun! I love summer time! Elias must be getting so big, I bet he's turning into a little chatter box too. So sad we wont see you guys this summer hopefully sometime during the holidays! You're so cute, I'm glad you got to milk your cow!
it sounds like we need to move to minnesota. what a great experience! we just spent time at a singapore farm, but it was a little different. we had to be on the lookout for snakes. can't wait for october! yummy french and swiss cheese/yogurt!
Wow, you are my hero, milking cows, making jam, all the farm fresh foods, you put us all to shame. Oh and you grind your own wheat, lets not forget that.
This is Teresa (Bullock) Smith! You look completely happy :-) It sure did put a smile on my face to see you and the udders of a cow! I am so glad that you can check a life long dream one off of your list...
That is so cute that you got so exctied to milk a cow! And making your own butter?! That is awesome. If (when?) the time comes that we are all supposed to live on our food storage etc. I am moving in with you. I hope that is OK? :)
You are a total farm girl Heidi!, I hope there is still some strawberries and rhubarb in Aug. and we totally loved the slide show from Eric's boundary water trip. Dad is getting so excited to do it.
Maybe I need to not read your blog so often because the more I read it the more I want to invite myself to your place for a week to learn your crafty, farmy ways! And also just to hang out. We haven't seen you guys in forever. Someday. And Elias is such a cutie.
HEIDI-
hope it's okay that I ran across your blog.
You and I share a love for The Bovine. I have always been fascinated with cows and love to learn about their milking and birthing and such. I could totally be a farmer.
You're awesome.
We miss you terribly.

you rock heidi! i have never milked anything. i had a mission companion that milked goats all her life and she had the arms to prove it. and then there was a couple on my mission that were totally into the food storage and living as independantly as possible...they had goats and chickens (they said goats were more economical--eating and size-wise, than a cow is) i think that we need to make an appearance at the jefferson county fair, considering that it is just down the road from us...you go farm girl!
I love how happy you are, happiness is milking a cow. Very cool, thanks for sharing your fun pictures.
I saw the CLP at church today, made me think of you. Hope all is well.
